NETMARKS Delivers WAN Acceleration Solution to Nihon KOSO's Indian Base
- Tokyo-India Communications Optimized via Internet VPN -
NETMARKS, INC. (Moto-Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Atsushi Ohashi; "NETMARKS") has delivered a WAN acceleration solution to the Indian base of integrated automation systems maker Nihon KOSO Co., Ltd. (Nihombashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Ikegaya; "Nihon KOSO") For network communications between its Tokyo headquarters and its base in India, Nihon KOSO has adopted Internet VPN, which makes it possible to maintain a high level of security in network communication methods while operating at low cost. However, the problem of line quality deterioration characteristic of Internet connections led to a decline in response during file-sharing between servers in Tokyo and India, etc. and the company recently decided to adopt Riverbed Technology's "Steelhead Appliance" product wide-area data service*1 products. This has made it possible to optimize the bandwidth of Internet VPN connections and to implement communication control and prevent deterioration in server response due to the connection.

When communication takes place over the Internet, there is said to be a high risk that the content of transmissions will be viewed illicitly while communication is in progress, but with an Internet VPN connection, the content of communication over the Internet is encrypted, offering high communications security. However, the fact that Internet connections are used makes it impossible to ensure bandwidth and communication.
Against this background, Nihon KOSO has been using Internet VPN for communications between Tokyo and India, but owing to the difficulty in ensuring connection bandwidth among other factors, the company has experience problems with the transmission not only of CAD data files, including product design data, but also of Microsoft Office-related files and e-mail.
For this reason, NETMARKS harnessed the know-how and technical strength relating to networks that it has accumulated over its long track record in proposing and building a system based on Steelhead Appliance wide-area data service products from Riverbed Technology. Using the unique functions of the Steelhead Appliance products to optimize TCP applications, predict communications arising between server and client PCs and process them in advance, helped to minimize the impact of line delay. Communication control of Internet VPN connections also made it possible reduce the volume of data transmitted across the WAN to approximately 1/5 of the volume prior to its introduction and enhance communication conditions even with Internet VPN.
Following on from its Indian base, Nihon KOSO plans to introduce WAN acceleration solutions for connections between its base in China and Tokyo headquarters and thereafter for connections with other overseas bases.
