NETMARKS Unveils New Version of Rapid File Transfer Software for
Fast and Secure Transmission and Reception of Files Over IP Networks

NETMARKS INC. (Moto-Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Atsushi Ohashi; "NETMARKS") will on October 1 begin marketing a new version of "Aspera Software Series", the rapid file transfer software developed by American software engineering company Aspera. The new version of Aspera Software Series incorporates "FASP*1 2.0", the technology at the heart of Aspera software products, which enhances its performance in the rapid and secure transmission of files over IP networks. NETMARKS has been marketing the Aspera Software Series since January 2006 and the software is currently used by a range of companies including broadcasters distributing video content, moving image production companies and video game software engineering companies.

The protocol normally used to transfer files over a network is FTP*2, but the volume of processing required for telecommunication significantly reduces the volume of data that can be transmitted, so that it is not possible to make effective use of bandwidth. FTP is also vulnerable to line delays and packet loss, further reducing the actual volume of data transmitted. Particularly in transmission to distant points within Japan and to points overseas, which is subject to long delays, or transmission over the Internet, it has been difficult to make effective use of bandwidth with conventional transmission methods.

Developed against this background, Aspera's Aspera Software Series features a unique technology known as "FASP", which accurately measures the spare capacity of the line and sends out the optimum volume of data for the speed of the connection. Accordingly, FASP is not seriously affected by line delays or packet loss and because it uses the available bandwidth to maximum advantage, makes it possible to transmit large volumes of data in a short space of time.

NETMARKS will be marketing the new version of Aspera Software Series to companies that transmit large volumes of data to distant locations within Japan or overseas, entertainment companies that produce moving images or games, etc. and expects to achieve sales worth \100 million in the first year.

*1: FASP (Fast and Secure Protocol):
The technological basis of Aspera's products; an independently developed protocol that sends out packets at the optimal rate for the physical line being used. Patented by Aspera in the US.
*2: FTP (File Transfer Protocol):
A protocol used when transferring files over TCP/IP networks such as the Internet or intranets
*3: MTU (Max Transfer Unit) value:
Maximum size of an IP data packet that can be transmitted at one time

About Aspera, Inc.

Aspera is a software engineering company whose products offer outstanding high-speed file transfer performance over IP networks. Aspera has developed and patented a unique core technology known as FASP, on the basis of which it has commercialized a range of rapid file transfer applications that are highly resistant to network delays and packet loss. First launched in 2004, Aspera's FASP-based products have become leaders in a market where users including broadcasters, film companies and entertainment companies transfer a large volume of data files.
