NETMARKS Delivers WAFS Solution to Mitsubishi Motors
- Optimization of WAN lines cuts traffic volume by 90%,
allowing integration of file servers -
NETMARKS INC. (Moto-Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Atsushi Ohashi; "NETMARKS") has delivered a Wide Area File Services (WAFS) solution to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Osamu Masuko; "Mitsubishi Motors"), assisting the company in the integration of its file servers. Mitsubishi Motors recently centralized the file servers that it had been running at 4 sites around Japan to a single location. Fearing that the concentration of user access at this single location would cause server response to slow, the company decided, in conjunction with the integration of its servers, to adopt a Wide Area File Services (WAFS) solution that would use the bandwidth of its WAN lines to maximum advantage and make it possible to integrate the file servers without slowing their response time.
With the aim of reducing the burden of file server operation and management, cutting costs and facilitating data backup as part of its disaster countermeasures, Mitsubishi Motors gathered the file servers it had been running at 4 sites around Japan at a single location. The move allows centralized data backup as well as centralized data management, data, and has reduced the burden and cut the cost of file server operation and management. As the integration of the file servers was expected to concentrate accessing of file servers by users who previously accessed servers at the 4 separate bases at a single location, Mitsubishi Motors implemented a WAFS solution based on "Steelhead Appliance", a WAN accelerator from Riverbed Technology, Inc. The cache and compression functions, etc. of this solution cut traffic volume by 90%, allowing the company to integrate its file servers without increasing the capacity of its WAN lines.
NETMARKS harnessed the know-how and technical expertise accumulated through the implementation of many networks and storage networks in integrating not only Mitsubishi Motors' file servers but also its data storage systems and WAN accelerator systems.
Looking to the future, Mitsubishi Motors plans to pursue the integration of file servers at its bases in other countries and the implementation of WAN acceleration systems, with a view to further reducing the burden of operation and management and cutting costs.
